Trusting Yourself in The Age of Overwhelm

So many of us are carrying a quiet exhaustion these days. Burnout and information overwhelm doesn’t just drain our energy—it also clouds our ability to make decisions. When we’re tired and stretched thin, our inner compass can feel out of reach.

I’ve noticed this in myself too: when I feel burned out or overwhelmed, I often default to looking outside for answers. Sometimes that means asking friends or mentors for guidance, and sometimes it means scrolling endlessly for inspiration. And while support and reflection are valuable, I’ve learned that when I’m depleted, what I really crave is clarity—yet I tend to turn everywhere but inward.

We live in a time of unprecedented access to information. There’s no shortage of advice, strategies, or perspectives—books, podcasts, courses, social media feeds, and now even AI offering answers at every turn.

But instead of clarity, the sheer volume often leaves us spinning in decision fatigue. Too many voices can pull us in too many directions....and we lose touch with the one voice that matters most: our own.

This is what I’ve come to see—no matter how much knowledge we gather, nothing replaces our deep inner knowing.  No expert, no tool, no algorithm can substitute the wisdom that lives in our body and spirit.

Thankfully, burnout and information overload don’t erase intuition. They just make it harder to hear. To reconnect, we need to slow down and create space for our inner compass to come online again.

Some gentle practices:

  • Pause before deciding. Take a breath, a stretch, or a step outside before making a choice.

  • Start small. Notice what your body wants right now—tea or water, rest or movement—and honour it.

  • Listen to sensation. Does an option feel expansive and open, or heavy and contracted? Your body often answers first.

  • Clarify with others. Try saying “I don’t need advice, I just need reflection.” This protects your agency and keeps you rooted in self-trust.

Each small decision made from presence rebuilds trust in our own guidance.

If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn, here’s a gentle reflection to carry with you:

What would it be like to turn inward—to listen to your body and intuition—before looking outward for answers?

Your intuition doesn’t need to shout. It just needs you to listen.

In the age of endless external information, choosing to pause and tune in is an act of self trust. And in building that trust, we begin to come home to ourselves.

Curious to learn more? One of my greatest gifts and offerings is supporting others to tune into their own inner wisdom, and then access the courage to bring it into the world. I would love to walk alongside you on this journey.

With love,

Laura
